Can We Be That Mustard Seed?

Through out time, there have been many, who have held a vision of greatness for our planet and humanity. Be it love, peace, higher conscious awareness, healing or the brother/sisterhood of all peoples. Each of these great Masters have encouraged us in their own unique way to unite our spirits and stand in love, nation with nation, person with person and create the world that is our destiny.

In these seemingly disruptive times of global destruction, war and hunger, can we open our hearts and just love for loves' sake? Do we still hold the spark of Christ Consciousness within us or do we need to look outside ourselves for it? Can we offer grace and love to a bag lady in the back alley or only judgment? And my biggest question of all, do we have enough faith to be the mustard seed that can move mountains? I believe that collectively we do.

So many of us pray primarily as individuals, we confess our own sins, give thanks for our own blessings, ask God to address our own concerns. Even those healers with immense prayer lists can feel as if they are working alone struggling to awaken the being in all humanity.

Yet, there is another way to conceive of our life together, another way to conceive of our life in God. It requires a different worldview - not a mechanical universe in which individuals function as diverse springs and gears, but one that looks more like a radiant web, interwoven and entwined in harmony.

In this universe, every interaction of thought or emotion between people or things, changes the face of history. A conversation, a smile a thought...

Prayer and Meditation

Recent studies into the effects of prayer and meditation add to a growing body of evidence that suggests focused thoughts, especially those offered on a large scale, have a predictable and measurable outcome. Documenting statistical changes in daily life, such as specific crimes and traffic accidents while prayer is offered, shows a direct relationship between prayer and these statistics.

Life on earth cannot be reduced to sure-fire rules for it is an ever-unfolding mystery that defies precise prediction. Meanwhile, in the radiant web universe, there is no such thing as "parts", the whole is the fundamental unity of reality.

Quantum Theory

According to quantum theory, a subatomic particle that divides into two particles becomes a set of "twins" - a single system with two parts, spinning in opposite directions. No one knows which one is spinning up and which one is spinning down until a measurement is made, but according to the laws of physics they must always balance each other.

Now imagine those two particles flying apart - one of them heading into space while the other lingers in a laboratory above the head of the scientist. If they could grab onto it and reverse its spin, then the other particle would have to reverse itself also - even if it was light years away. According to the laws of quantum physics, this is exactly what would happen. Some unimagined form of communication, faster than the speed of light, would allow each particle to "know" and respond to what the other was doing. Over time, many experiments proved that there is indeed some kind of instantaneous, intelligent communication between quantum particles. Once they have interacted with each other, they have the power to influence each other, no matter how far apart they go. This relatedness goes beyond human beings to include the whole of creation. Physical reality refuses to be compartmentalized.

Field Theory

As hard as we may try to turn creation into a machine, it insists on acting like a body, animated by some awareness that exceeds the speed of light.

Scientists think it has something to do with field theory - fields being invisible, nonmaterial structures that may turn out to be the basic substance of the universe. You know about gravitational fields and electromagnetic fields. If you stand under a high power wire and hold a fluorescent bulb in the air, there is a good chance it will light up, because you are standing in a power field. Well, imagine another kind of field that knits the whole cosmos together, so that a shiver in the Milky Way gives us a shiver right here, faster than the speed of light.

Scientists suspect that the relationship between mass prayer and the activity of individuals in communities is due exactly this field effect. A paper published by William James in 1898 suggests “there exists a continuum of consciousness uniting individual minds that could be directly experienced if the psychophysical threshold of perception were sufficiently lowered through refinement in the functioning nervous system.” Scientists believe that this was a reference to the universal mind that touches each and every one of us.

In Gregg Braden's book, The Isaiah Effect, he writes, “studies indicate that the first effects of mass meditation/prayer become noticeable when the number of people participating in the prayers was greater than the square root of 1% of the population”. If this is true, then 5 minutes of concentrated thought, prayer and meditation by approximately eight thousand like-minded people on our planet can shift the earth and her peoples, creating new possible outcomes.

Conclusion

I believe in the transformation of the human race into a place of higher consciousness and awareness of the inherent power we all hold. To bring healing and peace to our world is a gift within our grasps. It is our choice to “be the change you wish to see in the world.” (Gandhi). Think of the earth and send her your thoughts and prayers of gratitude, healing and love, send a prayer to humanity, one that includes living in peace. Collectively we are the mustard seed!
